Design 1986 C1 Atrevido

Here is Atrevido. She is a modified version of Niagara, a boat designed for Canada's Cup racing. Her aluminum hull, deck and structure were built by Robert E. Derecktor of Mamaroneck, New York. She was then shipped to Argentina for completion (yard unknown). The year was 1969.

Design 1292 C1 Palawan II and Ile de Feu

Samarkand - ex-Palawan II
Two beautiful boats were built to this design, which was prepared for Thomas J. Watson, Jr. This was to be his second Palawan. She was constructed by Abeking & Rasmussen of Germany of wood using typical S&S scantlings and was launched as a sloop in 1958.
Palawan's sister, Ile de Fleu was built by the Shipyard Rameau of Etal, France and launched in 1962. She was designed and launched as a sloop. From the notes it looks like her lines were altered slightly from those of Palawan. From what I can tell Watson had his Palawan converted to a yawl based on Ile de Feu's successes. Here she is in a very dramatic image.

Design 2202 C1 C2 Patrice III Unknown Chiquita of the Sea

A blog reader asked us to post some information about this design. Here it is.
There are a number of Admiral's Cup designs developed from Saudade, design #2140, around 1973-1974. Design #2202 was one of these designs. Two boats were built to this design: Patrice III being the first. She was constructed of aluminum by Halvorsen, Morson & Gowland of Australia and launched in 1974. She was conceived as an improvement on Saudade and as a flat out ocean racing vessel.
The following year a sister was built by the Berthen Boat Company of Lymington, England, also of aluminum. I find no record of her name nor her history. She was launched in 1974.
Then fast forward to 1988. A new design number was assigned, #2202-C2 for a boat named Chiquita of the Sea. In reviewing what we have on hand my suspicion is that in fact the Berthon boat was renamed Chiquita of the Sea and we only designed a new rig and a modified keel for her. Perhaps this was for the installation of a carbon rig?
Here is the general arrangement plan.

Design 1905 C1 Dyna II and Falcon

Two boats were built to this design by Palmer Johnson of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. Dyna II is a sloop. The design brief was for a (somewhat) luxurious cruiser/racer. Falcon is a ketch and was designed strictly as a cruising boat. The design was extensively tank tested. The year was 1969.
We have no images of Dyna II but that's Falcon shown here.

Here are the plans for Dyna II.

Here are the plans for Falcon.

The following images are both interior and exterior shots of Falcon. This is a good example of using a race-worthy hull as a platform for a cruising design.
