Aweigh Design 24
A blog follower asked us if we have any information regarding Aweigh. Here's what we have: Aweigh was built in 1934 by Davis & Sons, Solomons, Maryland, a very old shipyard indeed. She was destined to sail from her home port on the Chesapeake Bay and her 6' draft reflects this.
She is an unusual yacht for Sparkman & Stephens, being flush deck at 47'-2" overall. This makes her a bit high sided but still an attractive yacht by any measure. She was set up for short handed sailing for a cruising couple. I like this boat. Note just how much usable storage there is onboard (see general arrangement).
Here's an excerpt from the book, Best of the Best. (Click for larger image).
As a side note if you click on the link for Best of the Best you will be directed to the Barnes & Noble web page about this book. You will note this book is out of print and there is a used one listed there for nearly $600. We are in the habit of buying them whenever we come across them. If anyone is interested in buying one but is having trouble finding the book I have 2 sitting on my desk which we are selling for the published price of $75 (+ shipping). Simply contact me directly at bjohnson@sparkmanstephens.com.
Back to Aweigh. Here's the general arrangement plan.
I am sorry to report we have not one single image of this yacht.
