Design 1623 Loon
This lovely yawl was designed and built for Dr. Gifford Pinchot, who would go on to own a number of famous Sparkman & Stephens yachts over the years. The boat was built of aluminum by Jakobson's Shipyard of Oyster Bay, Long Island. She was launched in 1961. Pinchot would author a book entitled, Loki and Loon, A Lifetime Affair with the Sea, New York, 1985. More about Gifford Pinchot in a future posting.
